Inflation rises as trade deficit widens in July
Sri Lanka’s headline inflation accelerated to 8.0 percent in August 2026 from 7.3 percent in July, reflecting increased price pressures in the economy, according to the latest Weekly Economic Indicators released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL). Food inflation rose to 8.5 percent, while non-food inflation stood at 7.7 percent. Core inflation also increased to 5.1 percent from 4.4 percent.
