Forced labour import ban: SL on par with US trade agreement partners
Sri Lanka’s introduction of regulations prohibiting the importation of goods produced using forced labour has enabled the country to secure the lower 10% US tariff rate, placing it on par with economies that have already signed trade agreements with the United States.

Sri Lanka’s scale ceiling now runs through the cost of capital
On July 21, 2026, the Monetary Policy Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka held the Overnight Policy Rate unchanged at 8.75 percent, choosing to pause after a 100 basis point increase in May.

SL’s Ceylon Tea GI application accepted

Global fast-food chain Wendy’s soon in SL through JKH
John Keells Holding (JKH) is entering the fast-food segment in a big way with the local launch of the internationally recognised ‘Wendy’s’ brand.The relevant franchise agreements and other preliminary work have already been concluded with the first outlet expected to open by December 2026, the company said in its latest quarterly results.
