Sri Lanka keeps IMF programme on track
As the ruling National People’s Power (NPP) Government prepares to mark its second anniversary in power, an International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation, led by Mission Chief Evan Papageorgiou, arrived in Sri Lanka on September 10, for a two-week review scheduled to run until September 23, focusing on Sri Lanka’s economic performance against the end-June 2026 targets.

30 Sept. deadline for beneficial ownership filings
The Registrar General of Companies has urged all directors and secretaries of companies that have not yet done so to submit their beneficial ownership information by 30 September, warning of administrative penalties and legal consequences for non-compliance.

Grey-list fear driving Sri Lanka’s AML/CFT overreach
Global NPO Coalition on FATF Co-Chair Sangeeta Goswami yesterday said Sri Lanka, like most countries undergoing a Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Mutual Evaluation on anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) standards, is prone to over-compliance, adopting restrictions well beyond what the FATF standard actually requires out of desperation of being placed on its grey list.

SL y-o-y tea output falls by 3.7% in Aug.
Sri Lanka’s tea production fell by 3.7% in year-on-year terms in August 2026, dropping to 18.9 million kilogram (kg) – from 19.7 million kg in the same period last year, according to Sri Lanka Tea Board (SLTB) data cited in a report compiled by Siyaka Research.

Vehicle prices fall sharply, more drops expected
Colombo, September 18 (Daily Mirror) - A considerable drop in vehicle prices has been reported in the local market, with prices of small vehicles falling by at least Rs. 1 million, Vehicle Importers Association of Lanka (VIAL) Chairman Indika Sampath Merenchige said.
