NCPI accelerates to three-year high 8.1% in Aug.
National inflation accelerated further to 8.1% year-on-year (YoY) in August 2026, up from 7.2% in July, extending the three-year high reached the previous month, according to the latest National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) data from the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS).

Tea exports dip 5% in August
Tea exports during the first eight months of 2026 have declined by 5% year-on-year, with shipments continuing to be affected by higher freight and insurance costs and access disruptions in key markets.

Sri Lanka rupee closes at 329.30/60 to US dollar spot, bond yields drop
Sri Lanka’s rupee closed at 329.30/60 to the US dollar in the spot market on Tuesday, from 330.75/90 the previous day, while bond yields closed lower, dealers said.

Sri Lanka stocks beat early slump after sovereign rating upgrade
Sri Lanka’s Colombo Stock Exchange closed higher on Tuesday, CSE data showed, with the benchmark All Share Price Index moving up 0.36 percent.
