‘Ratings upgrade reflects stabilisation and reform progress’
The upgrade of Sri Lanka’s sovereign rating by Fitch Ratings from ‘CCC+’ to ‘B-’, with a Stable Outlook, reflects the continued progress in macroeconomic stabilisation and reforms, said Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Governor Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe.

SL’s GDP growth focused at 4%
Economic growth in developing Asia and the Pacific will moderate from 5.5% in 2025 to 5% this year before edging up to 5.1% in 2027, according to a new report by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The 2026 forecast is 0.1 percentage points higher than the previous outlook in July.

Sri Lanka sells extra Rs6bn Treasury bills after auction
Sri Lanka has sold 6,000 million rupees of treasury bills offered on tap at average rates of 9.37 percent and 9.93 percent, the public debt management office said, bringing the total of bills sold this week to 66 billion rupees.

Sri Lanka’s rupee closed at 330.30/55 to the US dollar in the spot market on Thursday, from 329.50/75 the previous day, while bond yields closed steady to higher, dealers said.

Oil extends gains on little sign of progress in US-Iran talks
Oil prices rose more than 2% on ‌Thursday as diplomatic talks between the US and Iran showed little sign of progress, while investors focused on uncertainty about a potential US ban on diesel exports.

Multilateral funding: COPF flags gap in disbursement
In terms of Sri Lanka’s multilateral aid disbursement progress made during 2026, particularly of the Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s proportion of expected disbursements for the year (31.5%), only 5.7% of total expected disbursements had been made by the Sri Lankan Government in H1 2026, Committee on Public Finance Chairperson Harsha de Silva, revealed recently (22) during a meeting.
